Patrick is a PhD candidate in sociocultural anthropology and human geography at the University of Arizona. At UVA, he majored in Global Development Studies and Foreign Affairs with a minor in Latin American Studies. He was also President of the UVA chapter of Global Water Brigades, studied abroad in Ecuador, and participated in several undergraduate research projects, including an ethnographic research internship with the Self-Employed Women's Association in Gujarat, India. After graduating in 2019, Patrick returned to Ecuador, where he spent three months supporting environmental monitoring initiatives and local cooperatives that provide sustainable economic alternatives to mining work for local people in a cloud forest region of the tropical Andes. He then served two terms as an AmeriCorps Construction Crew Leader and, later, worked as a Construction Supervisor for Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity in Richmond, VA. He started graduate school at the University of Arizona in 2022, where he has since earned an MA (2024) and advanced to PhD candidacy (2025). He continues to work with communities in Ecuador, and plans to return there for the seventh time to begin his dissertation research later this year. He lives in Richmond, VA.

Patrick is a past recipient of the Kathryn R. Davis Projects for Peace Grant Award, World Learning Alice Rowan Swanson Fellowship for the Defense of Human Rights, and several other grants and fellowships, including multiple undergraduate research awards at UVA. He would be happy to speak with current students about funding and conducting undergraduate research, AmeriCorps service, or graduate school.
